Who Are You?

High-Trust Leadership requires authenticity. It is more about who you are than what you say or the role you play.

Sure, you need to have presence and be effective and efficient in vision, strategy, execution, and accountability.

But if what you do is not consistent with who you are, your actions ring hollow, you inspire cynicism, and you miss achieving a greater and longer lasting impact.

Who you are speaks so loudly that I cannot hear what you say.
— Emerson
Who you are will show in what you do.
— Thomas Edison

Who are you?

What do you believe and value?

Do you behave differently when it is inconvenient, painful, or takes too much time?

Ask a truth-teller this week to share with you the gaps between your team’s values and your actions.

Just ask a simple question: “In what ways don’t I walk my talk?”

And then have the courage to listen — really listen — to the answer. Don’t defend, deny, deflect.

Then do something about it.
